Handheld Scanner

Enable QR Code Scanning on the Web App using Handheld Scanners

The Cannavigia web application supports the use of handheld QR code scanners to simplify data entry.

Important: Scanners can only be used in the web for QR codes related to plant batches, harvest batches, and article batches:

  • In manufacturing, on the weigh-in materials screen

  • On any page, scanning a plant batch or plant will open the detail view of that batch or plant

On mobile, the Cannavigia app uses the device’s native camera to scan all types of QR codes directly in the field.

This ensures flexibility: mobile scanning for on-site work, or handheld scanners for desktop and production environments.

A handheld scanner is a physical device that reads QR codes and barcodes. It connects to your computer (usually via USB) and works like a keyboard: when you scan a code, the content is automatically entered into the active input field on your screen.

Why Use a Handheld Scanner

  • Enables QR scanning directly in the Cannavigia web application, for plant batches, harvest batches, and article batches

  • No integration or software setup within Cannavigia is required

  • Plug-and-play functionality with most modern scanners

  • Ideal for desktop environments and production facilities

How to Use a Handheld Scanner with Cannavigia

  1. Connect the Scanner
Plug the handheld scanner into your computer via USB. Most models are instantly recognized as a human interface device (HID), similar to a keyboard.

  2. Check System Compatibility (if needed)
In some cases, minimal configuration on your operating system may be required (e.g., language layout, enter/return key behavior). This setup is unrelated to Cannavigia and depends on the device manufacturer.

  3. Open the Cannavigia Web App
Log into your Cannavigia account using a web browser.

  4. Navigate to the Input Field
Go to any screen where scanning is supported (e.g., searching by tag, adding a batch, etc.), and click on the input field.

  5. Scan the QR Code

    • On the weigh-in materials screen in manufacturing, the scanner will input the batch information.

    • On any page, scanning a plant batch or plant will open its detail view automatically.

Suggested Handheld Scanner Models

Note: These are recommendations based on general compatibility. Make sure to verify with your hardware supplier that the scanner meets your specific operating system requirements.

Troubleshooting

  • Verify the scanner is correctly connected and recognized by your operating system
  • Ensure you are scanning in a supported QR Code type (plant batches, harvest batches, or article batches)
  • Some scanners may require specific settings (e.g., appending Enter or Tab after scanning) – consult your scanner’s manual
