Article Batch Packages

Learn how to enable, create, manage, label, ship, and track individual Article Batch Packages for enhanced package-level inventory control and traceability.

This article explains how Article Batch Packages work and how they support package-level inventory management and traceability. It covers enabling the feature, creating and managing packages, viewing package information, printing labels, using packages in Goods Out transactions, inventory calculations, package statuses, and key considerations for compliance and tracking.

Topics covered:

Overview of Article Batch Packages

Article Batch Packages allow users to track individual physical packages within an Article Batch. Instead of managing inventory only at the Article Batch level, each package can be individually identified, labeled, shipped, and traced throughout its lifecycle.

Each Article Batch Package contains:

  • Package ID
  • Net Weight
  • Net Weight Unit
  • Tare Weight
  • Tare Weight Unit
  • Status

This functionality provides improved traceability and enables package-level inventory management and Goods Out operations.

Enabling Individual Packages

Article Batch Packages are configured at the Article level.

To enable Article Batch Packages:

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Articles.
  2. Create a new article or Edit an existing one.
  3. Select the Quality tab.
  4. Enable the Individual Packages toggle.
  5. Save the Article.

Only users with permission to edit Articles can modify this setting.

When Individual Packages is disabled

The standard packaging workflow is used and inventory is managed at the Article Batch level.

When Individual Packages is enabled

The packaging workflow requires users to create and manage individual Article Batch Packages during harvest packaging.

Creating Article Batch Packag
es

When packaging a Harvest Batch into an Article with Individual Packages enabled, package information must be entered for each Article Batch Package.

Required fields

  • Net Weight Unit
  • Tare Weight
  • Tare Weight Unit

Automatically generated Package IDs

If the Package ID field is left empty, Cannavigia automatically generates a unique Package ID using the Article Batch identifier. Each additional Article Batch Package increases the sequence number automatically.

After saving successfully, users can:

  • Open the newly created Article Batch.
  • Return to the Harvest Batch.

Article Batch Packages are displayed within the Article Batch detail view.

To view them:

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Article Inventory.
  2. Open an Article Batch that uses Individual Packages.
  3. Review the Packages table.

Package Statuses

Article Batch Packages can have the following statuses:

  • Available – The package is available in inventory.
  • Shipped – The package has been included in a Goods Out.
  • Destroyed – The package has been destroyed or wasted.

  2. Select an Article Batch that contains Article Batch Packages.
  3. Use the Add Package function.

Packages can be added by:

  • Selecting a package from the Package dropdown.
  • Scanning the package barcode or QR code.

Goods Out behavior

  • After at least one package is added, the Article Batch field becomes locked.
  • Packages can be removed from the Goods Out before saving.
  • Once the Goods Out is saved, the selected Article Batch Packages are marked as Shipped.
  • Shipped packages can no longer be selected for another Goods Out.

Delivery Note Information

Article Batch Packages included in a Goods Out are listed on the Delivery Note with:

  • Package ID
  • Net Weight
  • Gross Weight
  • Totals

Inventory Calculation

For Articles using Individual Packages, inventory is calculated from the combined Net Weight of all available Article Batch Packages.

Only packages with the status Available contribute to the available stock quantity.

Tare Weight is stored for labeling and traceability purposes and does not contribute to inventory calculations.

Important Notes

  • Article Batch Packages are currently created during Harvest Packaging.
  • Package IDs are unique and individually traceable.
  • Article Batch Packages can be shipped only once.
  • Shipped packages cannot be selected again in another Goods Out.
  • Inventory is based on Net Weight, not Tare Weight.
  • Package-level tracking provides enhanced traceability for inventory and compliance workflows.
